The Taylor Seminars: ‘Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus’

This week, I joined Hannah Chao and Exquisite Williams on their fantastic podcast, The Taylor Seminars. Each week, Hannah and Exquisite do a deep dive into a Taylor track, looking at the lyrics in forensic detail. Since I also run Taylor seminars, of a slightly different sort, this was a perfect match! Hannah and Exquisite are currently working through The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, and since this features heavily in my forthcoming book, I was thrilled to get a chance to both shamelessly plug the book (please pre-order!!) and explore one of my favourites in more detail. We traced the depths of sighs down passages of time into ‘Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus’, a fan favourite often nicknamed ‘Chloe et al’. We talk everything from wild horses to ring cameras, anacoluthon to shipwrecks, and try to shed a little more light on this most enigmatic of songs.

  1. Thanks for sharing, I am now hooked on this podcast! It joins My Tweets Ricochet on Twitter, Chats & Reacts on YouTube, and of course Swifterature on Insta as my regular sources for Taylor analysis. I have some additional thoughts on Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus that I will share via email so I can embed some hyperlinks.
